Kick Bright Thrift Score
Records found in local thrift stores. I got all these LPs at Antique Mall in south Orlando, FL. It's right down the street and I haven't been inside in years. There are just shelves and shelves of records. Mostly hard rock and metal. There's a lot more that I want to get here but at $2.50 a pop I'll have to space out my visits.

American Bird Songs
Volume One (Second Issue) LP
middle 1950s.

Unfornately the record is scratchy, just about unlistenable. Too bad. The narrator gives the name, scientific name location and then the bird call.

The Animals
Animalism LP
late 1960s

I never would have picked this up if it was not for VH1 and their little biography series. I watched the one on the Animals and didn't realize their scope on rock and roll. Their history seemed pretty neat. Sure, I know their hit song. I gotta say this album ROCKS! How come the "oldies" radio stations don't play songs like "Rock Me Baby"? Are lyrics like ""I want you to keep on rock and rollin' me til I feel like my back ain't got no bone" too un-radio friendly?

David Bowie
Station To Station LP
1976

What a good find! A scratch free LP that has my favorite David Bowie song,"Golden Years". I had not heard the whole album in its entirety until now. It's groovy. I liked "Stay". However, "Golden Years" is still the best song on it. My kitty kept making the record skip. She likes. I scoop her up and we dance.

The Jim Carroll Band
Catholic Boy LP
1980

You know the song......... Those are people who died, died. I salute you, brother!

Harry Belafonte
Calypso LP

If you ever see this record do yourself a favor and buy it. There must be a lot of copies out there in thrift store land. I've found three of this album in the last year and they were all purchased. This album is classic and is one of my all time favorites. It has "Day O", "Brown Skin Girl" and "Man Smart (Woman Smarter)". Calypso rules. It's the best thing to listen to in the early evening.

Holiday in Latin America

I'm disappointed. This is not Latin American recorded songs. It's songs done in other styles like string orchestras and accordians. What the heck? I feel like I'm in Olive Garden! I was hoping for something remotely authentic. The vinyl on this album is really thick. The packaging is also different. It's stitched with thread down the sides.

Julie London
Lonely Girl LP
1964+

I got this for the cover. Big title says 'Lonely Girl' and a girl with a faraway gaze. The music is not too bad - just vocal and acoustic guitar. Provocative singing and Spanish guitar.

Music To Strip By
Party Fun Songs from the Golden Age of Burlesque LP
late 50s/early 60s

Well, well well. This is quite a find - the kind that makes you yell out "YES!". Let me give the track listing and I'll leave comments and thoughts to yourself. And if any ladies out there want to listen to this with me, gimme a holla!

Side 1: (1) A Pretty Girl is Like A Melody (2) Bumps and Grinds (3) Frankie and Johnny (4) G-String Twist (5) Temptation (6) Night Train. Side 2: (1) The Stripper (2) Party Time (3) Bedroom Blues (4) Second Honeymoon (5) Girdles Aweigh (6) My Heart Belongs To Daddy.

Nat King Cole
Dear Lonely Hearts LP (???)
Love LP (1964)

Picked up two Nat King Cole records of the opposite emotions, love and loss. I must admit I didn't get into Dear Lonely Hearts. It was the geeky backup singers and string arrangements. I really don't like orchestral arrangements in 1950s pop music. I did like "My First and Only Lover".

Now Love, on the other hand, is much better. It's jazz arrangements - no horrid backup singers. The mood is just right! I'd take this over Sinatra, that's for sure.

The Rolling Stones
Hot Rocks LP (1971)
12 X 5 LP (???) late '60s

I picked up what I thought was the 12 X 5 album in perfect condition... the vinyl was in a plastic bag and it was in new condition, you could see the rainbow colors. I was very excited because this album has all the cool early songs. When I took the record out and read the label, it was not 12 X 5. It was side 3&4 of Hot Rocks. I was heartbroken but still a perfect condition Rolling Stones is a good find. I'll have to go back because I do remember seeing 12 X 5 in a sleeve. I thought it was a double so I didn't pay it attention. So the LP I did get has "Jumping Jack Flash", "Brown Sugar", "Sympathy For The Devil", "Gimme Shelter". Geez, is every Rolling Stone song a hit?

Okay, I just went back and got the loose 12 X 5. I didn't see a sleeve for Hot Rocks even though there are two recordless sleeves for the Stones in the shelves. I may have to do a closer inspection next time. So my 12 X 5 isn't too scratchy. It's one of their early albums of mostly cover tunes. It's the mono version. I'm happy.

Turkish Delight!
Mike Sarkissian and his Cafe Bagdad Ensemble
1958

This is okay. It's more traditional Turkey music - festival music that is. Good drums/percussion on this.
