Photography and Story by Jeffrey Howard. [pictured above: Heath Dupras - Versailles] This was a pretty cool show. I showed up late and missed this first band. I didn't even catch their name. The Dakota Coastline are awesome. They are like an emo Tullycraft. Very pop with a little rocking-out thrown in. If I am not mistaken it has former members from My Pal Trigger. The guitar from Versailles was playing bass. Versailles, like Dakota Coastline, are from Tampa, FL. I had heard a couple of Versailles songs via Boxcar Records. They were on a split 7" with The Mercury Program. I remember them being agressive ala Unwound/Unsane. Their live show was quite intense. I was impressed. For a three piece they were loud loud loud. Extra loud. The vocals, shared by Heath (guitar) and Bryan (bassist), were either whispered or screamed. These guys are good. I got the 12" on Gin & Catatonic Records and it is yummy. They currently have a new CD out on Boxcar Records but I haven't heard it. It's supposed to be better than the 12". If that's true I'd recommend it. Orlandos Peterbuilt closed out the evening. Somewhere along the line there are different people in the band. They filmed this show for a show in town called Bootleg Orlando. I saw it when it came on. You could see me for just a second in the crowd. |
