Okay, it takes quite a lot to get me to miss my favorite teevee show Get Real. I thought it came on at 8 pm and I'd figure I'd watch it and drive over to DIY, which is about twenty minutes away, and catch Victory At Sea. Yay Boston bands! But Get Real was really at nine so I had to choose.

I picked Victory At Sea even though I hadn't heard any of their songs. I recognized their name from reading Boston concert listings over the years. I always noticed they played The Middle East a lot, playing with Rachels, June of 44, & Karate (i think - bad memory?).

There were not a lot of people at the show, maybe twenty at most. That was crazy given the bands June of 44 connection. The band is two girls, Christina (drums) and Mona (guitar/vocals), and a guy, Mel, on bass. They were very good. They play a kinda mathy rock style. Christina was awesome. As is their bass player. Good show. I just wish more people would show up for good bands.

I hope someone taped Get Real for me.

Who: Victory At Sea. Where: DIY Records - Winter Park, FL. When: Wednesday October 27, 1999. What I Wore: globes, earmuffs and old nautical maps on my feet.
