Plain Jane Automobile Michigan Winter @ Sapphire - Orlando, FL. Saturday September 8, 2001. Review by Jeffrey Howard |

Sunday September 9, 2001. Last night I felt like going out. I didn't bother call anyone to accompany me - I just went. I went downtown and walked around. I happen to walk down up to Church Street where a free concert going on. It was The Romantics. Random rocking-out is great. I made myself to the very front and rocked out to "What I Like About You". It was fun. Now I can die happy. Then I walked over to Sapphire because I wanted to check out three bands I've been meaning to hear: Upstairs, Michigan Winter and Plain Jane Automobile. I've been curious about them for a while and the three were playing together so I thought I may as well check it out. The three were all right. Michigan Winter bounced between rockers and slow emo songs, the former making up for the latter. "Woe is me" (that's a Phil quote!) music is not what I want to be listening to. Give me the rock! Upstairs have a great live performance. The musicians was great. I didn't take to the vocals but she does have a good presence. They did a great "Billie Jean" cover. I'm mixed about PJA. One of the guitar players played through a delay that pretty much drowned out the rest of the band. It was like one giant ringing sound. Maybe they are good but I couldn't tell. I could only take about five songs of the constant ringing so I left. |
