I I had seen the guys from My Villain's Hero (pictured right) downtown one night passing out flyers. Those guys had prolly played at The Trapper Keeper the most times. They are totally cool guys, everytime they had a show I knew it was going to be a fun night. They have good attitudes and it comes through their music and performance. Needless to say I think they are a cool band, even for being so young. Their flyer was for a show at Back Booth with Rory, In Passing and Rookie of the Year. My first thought was "This is a TK show!", Back Booth doesn't do to many all-ages shows like this one. Back Booth doesn't do too much as far a shows period. It's back to being just a bar. Anyway, the situation got me riled and I had to talk to Lindsay about it. "We gotta get things rolling into starting up our club because this should be at our place!" I got downtown and there's lots of people outside, I guess there was no-rentry so the high school kids were hanging outside until something inside happened. Inside was the bar, not being used. Water's free, right? Easy night if you're a bartender I guess. Phil was barkeep. Everytime I see him it pisses me off a bit. He has yet to make good with me. Or even attempt.
The next band, Rookie of the Year, was a touring band from Ohio. I'm not sure the details but as they were on the road their van/equipment was all stolen. That's a terrible thing to happen, you know? They didn't let that stop the tour, they kept going. Though they only performed as a two piece, two acoustic guitar. I guess none of the other bands would not let them borrow gear. I know I would have let someone in that situation use my stuff and you know I never let anyone touch my stuff. They did maybe five songs, kinda butchering their way through. They didn't seem to be having a good time. In Passing was after them. I'm not sure where they call home, used to be Tampa, then Orlando and now somewhere out of state. I didn't get to stay too long because I had to get over to the Flickerstick show. I also missed Rory. They are always good.
After the show Lindsay called, she was next door at Bar-B-Q bar trying to have a dance party with Jet By Day, who had played over at Wills Pub earlier that night with Sound The Alarm. First thing I see is her talking to my ex-fiancee's boyfriend. I was like, oh great. I was briefly introduced and matters turned to where Jet By Day was. They were back over at the Social. So we went back and were directed to the backstage rooms. Yup, Jet By Day were there. Hung out for a bit, I got the last beer in the fridge (hidden behind the cans of Sprite - it was the only way the bands could have missed seeing it). We were hanging out for another fifteen minutes before Flickerstick come into the room. They needed a "band meeting" so we got up and left, not before asking me if I had any needles. I was like "uhhh, no." Haha. The party continued out at the back bar. Lindsay goes back and knocks on their door and asks for a bag of chips. She came back with a smile and chips to share. Yum. Flickerstick eventually come out... stumbled out more like it. They were standing next to our group and eventually came over to us asking about water. Next thing I know Dom and Cory are confronting me and why I have their chips and beer. See, as the bag was passed around I was left holding the bag. They seemed really really pissed. If you saw them on VH1's Bands On The Run you know how they can be. I told them they were given to me but they still were pissed and were all getting on The Social's workers cases about it. They were also mad about water being thrown on but I had nothing to do with that. It escalated into a big deal. The more they talked the more absurb it became. Singer Brandin came over and I told him what the fuss was about and he laughed. "There are more important things to be worried over," he said. It was getting late so we went outside, Lindsay was sitting outside telling us she had been kicked out. I'm not sure if the band threw punches at anyone or if they got another bag of chips, or if they even hungry. Does smack give you the munchies? I have no idea. It was still a good show but lesson learned: Flickerstick loves their chips. More pictures coming soon! |
