When I heard Hot Snakes were coming to town I went in a total tizzy. It was prolly the only show this year I could look forward to. You know, me being the most jaded concert watcher. I've seen just about everyone I want to see. Now if something comes along I haven't seen I do get excited. Especially if it's Hot Snakes because for a time it's all I rocked out to. 'Automatic Midnight' is a favorite. So is 'Suicide Invoice'. I even got a ticket in fear of a sell-out because that would be my luck, right?

I don't know anything about The Ponys other than they play great jangly indie rock. They had a nice vibe and look. At times they sounded larger than four members.

As Hot Snakes set up their gear John D made his way to the front. I knew he'd be front and center. I joined him of course. "We're gonna treat this like a hardcore show, man" he said, "like back in the day." Hell ya. When Speedo set up his twin cabinets in front of my head I knew I was going to leave the show with ringing ears. "It's gonna be worth it". Then the rock let loose. It seemed like ten minutes had passed before ten songs were already finished. "10th Planet" ruled. "Suicide Invoice" ruled. You couldn't touch "Past Lives". Seventeen songs later the band left the stage. We screamed and screamed. They came back for three more ending with a sweaty mess called "Let It Come". Best show of the year.
