Sunday March 31, 2002. "How can you honestly say that you're content with me?" - Engine Down.
The suprise guest was The Mercury Program. They weren't advertised so no one knew they were coming down from Gainesville. I have to say it was the best performance I've ever experienced from them. I'd dare say their set tonight may be the best performance of the year. The music they are arranging right now is amazing. Most of their songs was new material. All of it was instrumental. They are experienting with instrument changes during songs, even the drummer goes from drums to the vibes. They are pulling it off brilliantly. The second song they did..... whoah. I wanted to see Engine Down anyway. It's been a year and a half since I saw them last play. They are so good and tonight was no exception. The boys were loud; ear piecing loud. They play quite a few from To Bury Within The Sound ("Retread", "Intent To Pacify", "Depth Perception"), which made me happy because that album is fantastic. Needless to say it was a night for good drumming. No one can touch Dave from TMP or the Engine Down guy. I got to see old friends I haven't seen in months. All of them could tell something was wrong. I didn't think I was so obvious. Ah well. I didn't want to talk about it anymore so I didn't. Tonight was for rockin', not talkin'! They were supportive which was great. Thanks Michelle, Heather, Rick, Owen. It was nice seeing you all. And ohmigosh I didn't even recognize Michelle. For as long as I've know her she's been blonde. Tonight it was an auburnish strawberry colour. I was shocked. Really. Someone buy her a drink. Take a peek at Owens pictures from the show at his photo page. |
