Live Show: Doris Delay, Kristina Boswell
and the Dazzles, Timbers Shivered.
Timbers Shivered had already begun their set of indie-jazz rock fronted by Band of the Name's JT. They are a pretty tight unit, not at all a "silly" offshoot like most BOTN off projects. Kristina Boswell and the Dazzles offered
a mix bag of female-fronted pop with acoustic guitar, bass and
drums. The trio had some pretty nice song ideas but when pop
songs go into the four to seven minute time length they lose
their appeal. Finally Doris Delay (a Ken Kasey reference?) got their shot at the audience. I must say at first I was caught off guard and ended up quite pleasantly suprised. First off, I went on their first photo shoot in August and they had four members with them. One of them was missing - the girl. There was no mention of a member missing so I think they are now a three piece: Dominick, a former co-worker of mine, on lead vocals and guitar, Nick on drums and Matthew on bass. The sound was pop. Total indie pop. They were great. Fun fun. You can't beat catchy riffs, smart and clever lyrics. Man, just adorable. Even a bit tipsy (okay a lot tipsy) Matthew still shone on bass. He's one of my favorite Orlando bassists. Doris Delay has got something worth taking notice of. Download their songs "Lollipop" (my favorite so far) and "A Day At The Park" from their webpage.
