The Brian Costello Show with Jeanie and the Tits.
@ Wills Pub South - Orlando, FL.
Saturday January 11, 2006.

Brian Costello lives in Chicago and grew up in Central Florida. I remember reading his zines and column in one of the UCF newspapers. It was great, funny stuff. At one time we was roommates with my brother in Gainesville (anyone remember Tedquarters?). A winter trip back home to Orlando was the perfect opportunity to bring his live talk show, The Brian Costello Show with Brian Costello, to his hometown. The idea is simple, do what late night teevee greats like Letterman or O'Brien in a live nightclub setting complete with monologue, interviews, house band and musical guests. The show has been a staple in Chicago since 2001. His first novel "The Enchanters vs Sprawburg Springs" was just published by Featherproof Press.

The show went was hilarious. Brian enlisted local band The Learning Curves as the house band and Derek Lyn Plastic as the sidekick. Brian gave a monlogue and sang a song. The guests were a childhood friend, whom he had just so happened to meet working at Winn Dixie. That guy was a riot. Also interviewed Q & A style was Rich Evans of Florida's Dying Records.

The musical guest at the conclusion of the show was Jeanie and the Tits. This was the debut performance of this all-girl band that was a tribute band to Teddy and the Fratgirls, a mid 80's punk/early riot grrl band from South Florida doing all their songs. The girls are members of other bands Jeanie from the Clap Traps on vocals, Kristin from The Sharp Objects/Courtneys on drums, Mary from The Whores IV on guitar and Yochi which I think is her first band on bass. Probably no one knows or heard of Teddy and the Fratgirls but if you have you know they were pretty terrible in an almost likeable way. The piercing wail of their singer and the lyrical content of the words went from sarastic apologies for not being a man to wearing to loving shit and wearing poop as cologne. Gak! Jeanie and the Girls couldn't do any worse than the original. It wasn't possible. Just not possible. Actually, Jeanie and the Tits were impressive. The sound was huge. Jeanie yelled and danced around as the musicians appeared to have a cooler-than-though attitude that made them irresistable.
