![]() Derek Lynn Plastic, Jeanie and the Tits. @ Wills Pub South. Saturday February 11, 2006. The last time Beat Beat Beat and Heartattacks
(pictured above) came to town was the night my girlfriend Kristin
got kicked out of Wills Pub for drug use. Now, of course, Kristin
doesn't have any involvement in any of the kind but nontheless
it didn't matter --the club wanted her gone. Jeanie and the Tits opened the show debuting another cover song from Thee Heatcoatees after going through their Teddy & the Fratgirls cover set. Those girls are totally cute. Next band was The Learning Curves, who
I think have changed their name to The Liquorice Boys. Beat Beat Beat and Heartattacks played back to back. Those bands are friends with each other from Atlanta and shared equipment. This time it was like seeing both bands for the first time. I don't know why but these bands don't seem memorable to me. It was like seeing the same band twice in a row. They were both pretty indistinguishable (oh help my spelling--I don't have spell checks, you know...) from each other. They both dressed similar, every damn one of them wore tight pants and print t-shirts. Well, Heartattacks had added a slight glam look to them. One of their guitarists was a dead ringer for Nikki Sixx. It was amusing. The bands sounded similar, too -- it wasn't as rock or hair metal-sounding as it was old style punk. The Heartattacks, however, had more life to them at least. What I liked about them is they had energy. Beat Beat Beat seemed bored playing. The singer kept staring at the ceiling the entire time. I'm sure these bands sound different recorded -- but not live. Orlando's Derek Lyn Plastic ended the night on a punk-new wave hybrid sonic assault. I'm glad I had earplugs. Every band was super loud. ![]() Heartattacks. ![]() Beat Beat Beat Photography and writing copyright 2006 by Jeffrey Howard. Please don't display elsewhere, thanks. |
