Monotonix, Slippery Slopes, Tooth and the Enamels. |
There are shows. And there are parties. This show was the latter. It was the kind of night to put all lame shows to bed, where they belong. Kicking things off was the skate-punk styles of Tooth and the Enamels. Then came Slippery Slopes, bringing along with them the "King of the Flying Kegstand" Brian Bell. His job was to pour pitchers of beer into peoples mouth from the stage. Sometimes, if not most of the time, beer would end up all over their faces. The party was beginning to take off. Then comes Monotonix from Tel Aviv, Israel to blow the roof off Back Booth. The trio, made up of one vocalist, one guitarist and one drummer, started the show off set up in front of the stage. The guitarists biting riffs were matched by heavy pounding drums with their singer running around the room, on the stage and then into the back of the room. Then came the second song. The singer moved the entire kit to the middle of the room. By the end of the net couple of songs the bass drum ended up atop the drink banister with the guitar player playing it while the drummer played the rest of the kit just below him. All the while the singer ran amok the room, grabbing people, picking them up moving them to other parts of the room. No place was safe haven. He climbed the balcony. He climbed the wall. The show would end on the streets of Orlando with the drum kit assembled by the audience in the middle of the street. The band ran circles and climbed the tree. It was incredible. Here are pictures, which speak more than my written account:
