Mudhoney, Birds of Avalon, The Ludes. |
The Ludes are a three piece band from Orlando and I have to admit they were really good. They're the kind of band I would not venture out to see them but if I was in the room I would be all about them. And tonight I would be all about them. Their heavy southern rock sound mixed with a honesty about their music is right-on. Late in the show they had a harmonica player join them. The distorted harmonica and feedback was pretty cool. Birds of Avalon were picked by Mudhoney for their current tour. They're from North Carolina and are, surprisingly, on Volcom Entertainment. They had a cool setup with matching white amp coverings. One of their guitarists had a fancy setup playing out of two amplifiers with several "boutique" guitar pedals including a Mu-Tron. I don't know how to describe them.... a lot of harmonizing guitar lines and solos..... at times it sounded really muddy and it wasn't because of the sound man. They do a lot of touring it seems with bands like The Fucking Champs and the Flaming Lips. I didn't hear the big deal. Not very memorable. How do bands like this exist? Mudhoney hadn't been to Florida in forever. Maybe ten years? Maybe even more. I didn't see them back then anyway so this would be my first time seeing them. My brother had that first single "Touch Me I'm Sick" with "Sweet Young Thing (Ain't Sweet No More)", which is one of the best singles ever if you ask me. The show was insane. Insanely good! People were stage-diving (and getting thrown out in process, dancing and....um..... grunging. A couple of days previous Pearl Jam came through Florida playing to huge arenas. Weird if you ask me. Hey Pearl Jam, tour with these guys! They are better than you.
