The 12th Annual Celebrity Mascot Games.
Where: TD Waterhouse - Orlando, FL.
When: Saturday July 10, 2004.

I don't know whose idea it was to put into competition team sports mascots but I know they were just about brilliant. Team mascots from hockey, major league baseball, NFL, NBA, college..... the lists could go on and on. Just about every sport that has mascots was represented in some way. This was the 12th annual Celebrity Mascot Games, a charity event for New Hope for Kids. It was wild wacky fun let me tell you.

The mascots were divided into four teams: Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. Basically whatever color they were is what made the team. My section of the arena was Red team and we had, among others, the Miami Dolphin, Dallas Cowboy, Tampa Bay Buccaneer, Orlando Predator, Chicago Bull. We had a pretty good team to say the least.

One event had them running and climbing through one of those huge blow-up obstacle courses. Not all the mascots could make it through. They were too big! It was funny. The second event was jousting using those individually powered gocarts and they all rammed each other. Another event was bowling, one mascot was hoisted into a rope hung from the ceiling and the other teammates would hurl them into a giant set of bowling pins. It was nuts. Red Team mascot had a sword to lengthen its reach so we won that round.

Inbetween events all the mascots did their things, running all over the arena. My favorite mascot was 'Lil Red from Nebraska. It was so huge, like two people high. That poor guy couldn't get anything right other than doing a jig and crush in its head. Good lord I thought it was the funniest.

The last event pitted the teams in a one-on-one rumble like they did in American Gladiators. All I can say it was the funniest thing ever seeing them clobber each other up. One matchup was the Florida Gator vs the Lady Gator. Poor Lady Gator didn't have a chance. The final matchup was Red Team versus Yellow Team. I don't remember which mascots were in the final round but Red Team came victorious. I was so happy we won.
